About the Event
We're thrilled to welcome special guest Instructor Joy Grad for this fun night of Hip Hop dancing.... all from the comfort of your own home!
Joy Grad is a Hip Hop dancer with The Timeless Torches, the senior dance team for the WNBA NY Liberty basketball team. The Torches are comprised of dancers aged 40 to 80 and has been featured at many private and public events. Joy has been dancing with the team since 2017 and has performed on court for the NY Liberty at Madison Square Garden, the Westchester County Center and, since 2021, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. She has also performed at Nassau Coliseum for a Long Island Nets game, at the MSG training center in Tarrytown, at Herbert Von King Park for their 2021 Juneteenth celebration and, also in 2021, for Practice In the Park – Brooklyn Nets Open Practice at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Most recently Joy has been honored to perform at the Inauguration Celebration of District 35 Council Member Crystal Hudson, who was recently elected the new chair of The Committee on Aging, and for Rooftop Films Opening Night Celebration at Green-Wood Cemetery.Joy has studied dance since the age of six, received a BFA in Dance from the University of Michigan, and went on to choreograph her own modern dance works. After studying ethnic and social swing dances she joined Karim Tonsy Eqyptian Dance Theater, and the swing dance groups Troupe 212, and The Amazebals, among others. She has performed at Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center multiple times and at many swing dance events throughout the city.Since 2013, Joy has taught social ballroom dance to NYC public school students. In 2021, she developed her own Hip Hop afterschool curriculum for students of multiple ages and loved seeing them absorb the culture and dance of Hip Hop including drawing graffiti, rapping and dancing. She is excited to share with adults her knowledge of Hip Hop and her Timeless Torches experience dancing for large crowds. She will get you up and moving with fun and energetic moves mixed with a heap attitude. Wear your stylin’ sneaks, your fave tee and whatever makes you feel like a STAR!
